Greek elections: The next day

Alexis Tsipras: Today Greek people have written history. Greece turns page. Greece leaves behind destructive austerity, fear and authoritarianism, five years of humiliation and suffering. Greek people cancel the memorandums of austerity and destruction, troika becomes past for our common European frame. Today there are no winners and losers. Greece of elites and anti-democratic aberration has been defeated. Greece who fights, who hopes, has won. Update: Tsipras and Theodorakis, the leader of the systemic neoliberal Potami, already made a first conversation. However, SYRIZA already declared that will not form government with Potami, claiming indirectly that this party is created by the systemic establishment.

Some official admissions of the past year in Greece of crisis

Greece needs debts cancelled and growth

As economists, we note that the historical evidence demonstrates the futility and dangers of imposing unsustainable debt and repayment conditions on debtor countries; the negative impact of austerity policies on weakening economies; and the particularly severe effects that flow on to the poorest households. We therefore urge the troika (EU, European Centra Bank and IMF) to negotiate in good faith with the Greek government so that there is a cancellation of a large part of the debt and new terms of payment which support the rebuilding of a sustainable economy.
