Six Russian long-range Tu-22M3 bombers on Tuesday
carried out airstrikes on Islamic State arms and ammunition depots in
Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The bombers took off from a Russian airfield and flew
over Iraq and Iran to carry out airstrikes on a terrorist plant
producing ammunition and explosives in Tel al-Salhiya, IS arms and
ammunition depots, as well as areas with hardware in the Deir ez-Zor
province, according to the ministry.
All targets were destroyed, it added. Su-30SM and Su-35S
planes provided air cover for the Russian bombers from the Khmeimim
airbase in Syria. The planes returned to Russia after successfully
completing their combat mission.
