The
Greek government, as an authentic representative of the neoliberal
dictatorship in Greece, deliberately destruct public benefits and
services
by system
failure
The
attack against workers in public sector is aiming the downgrading of
public services to the people and shrinking further wage cost in
public and private sectors for the profits of the big companies.
Greece's lenders follow the orders of the big banks and multinational
corporations imposing them to the Greek government, of which some
executives are, anyway, faithful to the neoliberal doctrine.
Tactics
of downgrading followed excessively, resemble rating agencies, which
gave the signal for the start of the economic war against Greece.
Government exploits even the only way of workers' resistance, which
is strikes and protests. Using the mainstream media which are fully
committed to the memorandum policies, as they are fully controlled by
the banks and big private interests, the government uses the
propaganda in full force to blame workers for the deficient function
of hospitals, universities and other public institutions.
In
reality, the downgrading of public benefits and services has started
a long time ago and the government coalition parties are exclusively
responsible for this situation, but they are trying to blame workers.
A characteristic example is the chaos in local services after the
repeal of prefectures according to the "Kalikratis" plan.
The responsibilities of employees have broadened to a great extend
and the central administration gives order for works which are
impossible to be carried out with the present staff.
Through
this way, the door opens to private companies which will undertake
managing - with humiliating salaries workers under the already
dissolved labor rights - and will burden state budget by setting up
cartels and gaining big profits. The contracts will be given of
course to those who are close to the government. At the same time,
government officials give lessons against excessive spending in
public sector. It's the same government which left the deposits of
universities and hospitals unprotected, allowing their massive
conversion in Greek bonds by the Bank of Greece, just before the new
bond haircut PSI program, bringing huge losses in their stocks.
Therefore, the same model will be adopted for other sectors like
health and education.
The
government is trying to downgrade even its own creation, the Public
Television (DT), after the coup against Hellenic Public TV and Radio
(ERT), taking advantage even the fact that DT has become a mouthpiece
of the government positions - due to the absence of the Opposition
MPs to DT's panels - and therefore totally unreliable.
Unfortunately,
workers in DT, who are kept under hostage, will clearly understand
government's intention by the expire of their contracts because the
only thing that the government has in mind, is to satisfy troika's
demands for massive layoffs, and give expensive presents to the big
private media owners, like the rights for big athletic events,
eurovision contests, etc. Besides, the big private media fully
support government through propaganda, as they have shared the
digital frequencies, which is the first gift they received from
government just after the "black" against ERT, plus, they
need government to expand neoliberal policies in favor of their
bosses.
The
hypocrisy of the government officials is truly unbelievable. While
they appear as if they care about unemployed, pointing the finger to
the public workers who still have their jobs, they impose massive
layoffs and apply policies which strike the economy, forcing small
and medium businesses to close and therefore, leaving more people
without jobs. It's not a surprise since this is what they want after
all. They want to create armies of unemployed so that they beg later
for a job with a salary much lower than today.*
While
we approach euro elections, one should expect new cruel measures
because voters will normally vote more freely as the media could not
blackmail them with the bankruptcy scenario. Therefore, neoliberal
dictatorship will rush to apply the new measures in order to reach
the Greek experiment targets at the highest possible level since it
is almost certain that the euro elections results will be a clear
conviction from the people against these policies.
Some
MPs, mostly from the Socialist party, warned that they will abandon
the government coalition, in case that the parliament will vote the
bill for the auctions of primary houses, as troika dictates. Thus, it
is not accidental that troika tried to test government through a
recent email, asking from the ministries of Labour and Finance to
estimate the amount that the insurance funds would save, in case that
they would not pay not a single pension in 2014!
If
someone thinks that these are science fiction scenarios we should
remember that just four years ago, or less, massive layoffs, worker
availabilities, dissolved labor rights, closing public organizations
in one day, and many other things, were out of question and no one
dared to say that may would become reality one day. Neoliberal
dictatorship is shaping the suitable conditions for the new Middle
Ages and only the massive and dynamic resistance of peoples can
prevent it.
